I don't know if it's possible with Qgis API, AFAIK it isn't possible
because Qgis doesn't support Z vaues.
You could consider ogr2ogr, setting -nlt to POINT25D (or POLYGON25D,
etc.) and -zfield to the field from which to peak the Z value.
You can also do it from Qgis vector tools.
