I am working on the mt thing. You can see the approach I am taking in
the attached diff, but it basically revolves around starting a QThread
for each algorithm & qt signaling.
Still not sure how to replace e.g. the progress objects.

Also, created a blog here: http://sextante-gsoc.blogspot.com/
Hope that platform is ok (I have zero experience with blogs), intend
to write a short intro to my project now and on monday my first
report.
