Compliments, looks quite nice.
Agreed, fixed size seems unuseful, at least for histograms.
At a first look, it seems tha all needed options from old implementation are there,
so if nobody miss an option, I'd suggest to remove the older implementation shortly.
One minor issue: a variable should be selected also by double-clicking, not only by
clicking on the + icon.
