Agreed, but having a prefilled field ensures that an unexperienced user can always
get a result, and refine it later. I still vote for the autofill.
By default, the attribute used should be the first one selected, or even better the
one with the highest value.
With these two changes, the user is guaranteed to get his graph plotted and visible,
otherwise some frustration may occur.

A few minor notes:
* It would be nice that on reopening the user will find the last used tab, instead of
going back to the first one.
* The default for scale dependent visibility should match those on the General tab
rather than being -1.
