I think a checkbox is reasonably well suited for yes/no, true/false.
What you describe is a radio-button - which would be a different
widget in my opinion. It should not replace the checkbox but should be
an additional widget.

Have you tried the "Alias"? It should do exactly what you want and
works for both the standard form and the d'n'drop form
