[Qgis-developer] QGIS Plugin - Numerical Digitize Question/Modification

Greetings All,

My question is for a developer that works with the Numerical Digitize plugin.

I am employed at a non-profit planning agency that works with water and wastewater utilities. Many of these utilities have handheld GPS units that return a text file with geographic coordinates in longitude and latitude. It would be extremely beneficial for these utilities to plot their appurtenances and update shapefiles themselves. Experimenting with the current Numerical Digitize plugin, it appears the tool is designed for XY coordinate entries.

Is it possible for the tool to be modified so that geographic positions (longitude/latitude) can be entered?

The data I am experimenting with is in KY SP Single Zone (EPSG 3089).

I am running QGIS Desktop 2.0.1, on Windows XP. I installed the software using OSGeo4W Shell.

Should this be an easy modification, I will be happy to share sample data with a developer.

Thank you for your assistance and I look forward to receiving a response.
