Isn't that backwards?  I think we need to start with the work, see how it goes
and then decide when it's ready to be merged - and maybe make plans earlier if
something solid materializes.

I thought we already agreed on doing the work in a branch and eventually merge
it back - depending on whether Qt5/PyQt5/Python3 is feasible without major
breakages before 2.14 and if it's not later.  

But we didn't actually create a branch yet. I think we should start with that.
