I am aware of that - the visibility presets work as "snapshots" instead of
staying active when configuration changes. The reason behind this was that
due to implementation details it wasn't possible to have different active
sets of "checked legend items" - e.g. one set for main canvas and another
set for composer map. Now with changes I have done to support styles it
seems like there could be a way to make presets work like styles (to keep
the active configuration). Most likely I will not have a chance to work on
it before 2.8 feature freeze - but maybe in a future release...
