Yes, changing the executable and install path for every version is a
long established practice in the GRASS community to support multiple
versions installed at the same time.

Hardcoding a version is wrong.

The Debian package installs the /usr/bin/grass symlink to the
/usr/bin/grass<XY> version specific executable.

But you can't rely on that being available on all platforms, so you need
to test for the various possible executables.
