[QGIS-Developer] Editing topology data

QGIS is based on simple features and handles topological data (e. g. GRASS
layers) as such.
Recently I had to deal with a dataset made with Topobase (now Autodesk) on
Oracle Spatial (topology). I proposed to migrate it to PostgreSQL/PostGIS
as a topological dataset, withoud degrading it to simple features.
Handling it using Sandro Santilli's PostGIS Topology Editor could be a
possibility, but it was not upgraded for a long time and it does not seem
to be a long term solution.
What is the future of topology in QGIS? Handling topological vectors has
been substantially enhanced, but what about the data? How to deal with the
problems that the plugin (partially) tackles? I see a wide area for
enhancement proposals, but they are maybe off topic, maybe GRASS is the way
to go, without bothering QGIS.
What do you think?
