[QGIS-Developer] Suitability of backporting browser layer preview feature to 3.4?

Hi list,

I'm looking for thoughts on whether it's suitable for backporting
https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/commit/17447e4b from 3.6 to 3.4.2.

The rationale here is that the loss of layer preview functionality is
a functional regression from 2.18 (due to us completely dropping the
standalone browser application in 3.0). The changes are quite small
and self-contained (a lot of that commit has already been backported
via other bugfixes).

I've had one customer already question how they can preview layers in
3.x as a result.

Is this suitable for a backport?
