I think we should be pushing users to use the native FeatureServer
provider here, as it has several advantages:
- downloads features "on demand", instead of upfront. (And many times
it will download these responsively in a background thread during the
rendering process)
- automatically styles layers with the same styling and labeling as is
set on the server
- full support for QGIS networking, including authentication system
- support for accessing data with custom referral checks and via
"borrowed" ESRI authentication tokens

(and hopefully in 3.8, editing support!)
