[QGIS-Developer] Union processing algorithm fails with "GEOS geoprocessing error: difference failed."

Hello!

We find that the union processing tool fails with certain geometries. The
error shown is "GEOS geoprocessing error: difference failed.". The check
validity tool did not find any errors with the input layer.

Is it related to this issue: https://issues.qgis.org/issues/21584  ?
