[QGIS-Developer] QGIS / FreeCAD interoperability...

Regis,

This is probably one of the more common use cases that comes up on the
FreeCAD side when GIS integrations are discussed. There has been some
effort in the past in this regard. One forum member, microelly, is very
much interested in this topic and has made efforts to build geospatial
support into FreeCAD. His work has been merged into our "geomatics"
workbench more recently.

As for BIM support, one of our lead developers, yorik, is an architect by
trade and has worked on BIM support at least at the architectural level.
That, I'm sure, provides a suitable beginning point for a larger scale
application of BIM.

Much of this is beyond my scope of work, but I'm always interested in
seeing something happen. Perhaps if we can establish a use case or propose
a basic, functional integration, it may make it easier to get something
done.

In all honesty, I don't use FreeCAD in the way that it's typically
intended. :) I'm not the most experienced at seeing the issues in the
integration, so I can't easily predict the complications...
