The U.S. federal geodetic agency: NOAA/NGS (National Geodetic Survey) is seeking representatives from the geospatial community - more specifically industry and the open source communities - for a team to advise the NGS on what services and support can be provided in advance of a planned major update to the National Spatial Reference Framework (NSRS). In short, the NGS will move away from NAD83 to a reference framework more closely aligned with the global system of IRTF (et al).
Here is the ask of the QGIS community: we're seeking one or more representatives, hopefully in the vicinity of DC, (to easily attend some meetings, the first of which is in May of this year) who are involved (or versed) in the geodetic elements of QGIS. The team is public and private entities, and related trade media.
In 2022, the NGS will implement the following reference frames:
· North American Terrestrial Reference Frame of 2022 (NATRF2022)
· Pacific Terrestrial Reference Frame of 2022 (PATRF2022)
· Mariana Terrestrial Reference Frame of 2022 (MATRF2022)
· Caribbean Terrestrial Reference Frame of 2022 (CATRF2022)
Along with a new gravity-based vertical framework:
· North American-Pacific Geopotential Datum of 2022 (NAPGD2022)
The NGS will be providing too for time dependent transformations and respective state plane system). This team will help specify the tools and outreach. As QGIS is so widely utilized, the team feels that participation and representation is important (otherwise the commercial firms would be driving the ship.
