Hello Jonny
This looks like a valid configuration, an easier approach might be to
set the Data URL in the QGIS layer properties [1].
Regarding basic auth, the best way is to cascade the requests via QGIS
Server, as you probably don't want the basic auth credentials showing up
in plain text in the QWC configuration files.
