 Jef / Greg,

 A focused GDAL ticket should likely be filed on this.  Note, I don't
 maintain the JasPer driver, so if you approach it from that angle it will
 be up to Andrey Kiselev to decide if he is interested in pursuing it. If
 it is reproduced with the JP2KAK driver, I can try to look into it.
