 The JasPer and Kakadu problems appear to be different.

 For JasPer, it consistently appears in anything based on GDAL.  I have a
 bug report for that:

 http://trac.osgeo.org/gdal/ticket/2399

 The Kakadu problem appears in some particular way of using GDAL - here in
 Qgis, and in FWTools as noted by ersts.  Other direct use in the GDAL
 tools is not affected.
