[Qgis-user] using ECW in Qgis

Hello everyone,

Is there any way to use .ecw files in Qgis without compiling things? I 
read something about compiling gdal with ecw support, but I didn't 
understand much about this.
I use Ubuntu 7.10 with qgis-9.2-rc1(installed from repository).

I could also try to compile gdal, but I don't know what to do first: 1) 
Remove qgis 2) compile gdal 3) reinstall qgis?
And how do I put the ecw into compiled gdal?
