[Qgis-user] Select several layers at once?

In theory a 'group maker' plugin could be created to do this. The reason
we dont support multiselection in the legend is that some tools /
functions refer to the currently selected legend item and we need to
write appropriate routines to manage cases where more than one layer is
highlighted. This is mostly just legwork, but its not on the cards for
1.0.0 since we are in feature freeze. Be sure to add it as an
enhancement request in the bug queue.

I cant recall us ever having that feature but once again should not be
difficult to implement at some stage post 1.0.0.
