[Qgis-user] volumes and coding

Hi,
I made a dumb-check and found out the following:
Volumes, and folders within, are read (in a mac G3, tiger 10.4.11,
with either version of QGis) as long as I drag the icon to the left-
side bar. Big help indeed!
However, when exporting, for example a shape file from QGis to these
"external" locations, either the save fails or QGis crashes, thus
failing. If instead I save shapefiles in the "local" drive (boot
disk), for example in desktop, all works smoothly. Thus, problem
diminished with success!
Back to earlier issue: coding. Loading shapes in UTF8 does respect
the .dbf characters (accents and "ñ") but are displayed as a
questionmark symbol. If after loading shapefiles I edit the table
from within QGis, all is set properly. Another little problem made
smaller!
Thanks for useful comments and the hard work of developers!
