Yip, I had removed all plugins already, so that's not the problem.

This first problem is probably due to the fact that you have older
versions of plugin (namely fTools in this case) that are based on older
versions of QGIS. Your best bet is to remove (or simply move somewhere
else) these older plugins and update to the newer ones once QGIS is
properly installed...
