[Qgis-user] calculating distances between points

I have two CSV files which I've converted to VRTs containing points on the
map. Maps are projected in UTM.

How can I determine the distances of points in File #1 from points in File
#2? By distance, I mean distance like as-the-crow flies.  Is it possible to
generate these values and add a column for them in the DBF table or some
other file?

I'm hoping to visualize answers to questions like: how often do events
plotted in File #2 occurs in relation to the distance from points in File#1.
Am sorry if I can't express myself in GIS terms.
