Here is a nicer tool from GIS-Lab:

(make sure you hit translate on top of the page from russian to english)
According to my test (almost 300,000 points on a 25 metre terrain) it
takes 20x less compared with the point sampling tool.
Some of other benefits:
- It can directly outputs to csv without adding it to dbf (that's what
you need I guess)
- Multiple rasters
- Shell based so you can write lots of scripts
Let us know if you have problems installing or using the tool.
