[Qgis-user] ftools crash when using single parts to multipart

Hi,

I have subset of island polygon shaepfile from the natural earth
dataset.  What I want to do is convert the islands into a multipart
polys using the province as the attribute.  I get a crash when I
attempted to use ftools' "single parts to mutlipart" tool.

Upon inspecting the data using the vector edit tool, I noticed that
some are laread multipart polys.  Any idea on how to clean this
shapefile?

Using qgis 1.6 in macosx.
