Problem solved. This was done by reinstalling QGIS 1.7 from the 'Release' repository, rather than the 'ubuntugis' repository. Which to me suggests that there are serious problems with the 'ubuntugis' version. Regards, Nick. -- Nick Hopton, Caversham, Reading, England.
