Hi Angelos,
I just installed QGIS 1.74 (from 1.73 which worked fine) on OpenSuse 12.1 64bit.
It is now broken with a startup error message as below.
My libpython was 2.7 from the standard repository. This had the same version as the python repo you suggested.
QGIS is running, but with no python support, my system is fully updated as far as I can tell.
Any advice/fixes appreciated...
Thanks,
Brent

Hi,
QGIS 1.7.4 works fine in my machines
You should add this repository in your system:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/devel:/languages:/python/openSUSE_12.1/
update and try installing qgis again

Angelos

I noticed my error when QGIS upgraded to 1.7.3 as
well, but never got around to reporting it, then 1.7.4 came out
soon afterwards. It opened and ran fine in v 1.7.2
I will check my python version when I get home tonight and
see if that could be it if not, I may rollback to 1.7.2.
I'll follow your forum thread for updates as well.

I had a
problem with the installation of QGIS 1.7.3 in the same

missing dependency also related to python. I've posted the
problem in the forum, but so far there wasn't a reply:

When I try to run qgis from the terminal, the splash
shows, but as soon as
it gets to the part "Starting Python" the splash
simply closes.
The output from the terminal is:
*qgis: siplib.c:10938: sipEnumType_alloc: Assertion
`(((currentType)->td_flags & 0x0007) == 0x0003)'
failed.*
*Aborted*

I downloaded and installed QGIS from the "geo"
repository (
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Application:/Geo/openSUSE_12.1/)
*
*
QGIS: 1.7.4-Wroclaw
OS: OpenSUSE 12.1 with KDE 4.8
Kernel: 3.1.9-1.4-desktop
