[Qgis-user] Dissolving lines in QGIS?

Hello,

I've been using QGIS recently to prep data for layout in Adobe Illustrator
with Mapublisher. I'm running into cartographic problems with shape file
data for features such as roads and rail. The problem I'd like to solve is
that the lines in these types of data are often broken into many different
segments and I'd like for them to stay connected to maintain continuity and
for applying outline styles in layouts. I've accomplished this before in
ArcMap by dissolving on a field such as "class" or "type." Does anyone know
if there is a similar way to accomplish a dissolve of line features in
QGIS? I know a dissolve geoprocessing tool does exist but it seems to only
work for polygons. Or might there be another work around to accomplish this?

much thanks,

-Chris
