I still don't think I've figured out how to reply to a single message in
the digest, apologies if this makes yet another new thread post.

Deleting the blank qgis.db file solved my problem, so thanks.

Also, I had never started QGIS as root, so I'm not sure how the folder
ended up owned by root..
