I was in a similar situation (study site spread over two UTM zones), and I got the following advice:

"Albers Equal Area, and specify the meridian as the middle of your study area and the two
parallels to sit at the top third (or top quarter) and the other standard parallel to set at the
bottom third (or bottom quarter) of your study area"
