[Qgis-user] x coordinates field calculator

Hi all,
I have a point shape and I want to add 2 columns, lat and long.
I open the attribute table and the field calculator, then I create a new
field (x) with the option of geometry -> $x.
Same for y.
The problem is that the new field involves just a few records, for the
others the value is NULL.
Why not all the records are being updated?
