In order to help you, we need more information:

- What SRC have you used unsucessfully?
- what is the content of the .prj file (it can be opened with any text 
editor?
- what is the extent of the data (you find that by right-click on the 
layer/Metadata)?
- should the data be in degrees/kilometres/metres/foot?
- is the data publicly available?
ftp://geoftp.ibge.gov.br/mapeamento_sistematico/topograficos
offers a lot of geodata from brazil.
