[Qgis-user] [Off-Topic] Field Data Collection with QGIS

For GPS on my Android I use an external bluetooth GPS device with both Glonass and GPS (and app Bluetooth GPS).
This save my battery at the android AND gives better results for the coordinates.

Forgot to mention:

If you want to use an internal GPS make sure that your device has a proper GPS and not only AGPS which is not only poor in precision but also only works with internet connection…

Furthermore, Tablet-Accessories that were useful for us were:

- A digitizing pen (if you go for e.g. a tablet like the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 that is included). Esp. for me a digitizing pen was essential in order to use the device at all.

- A micro USB to USB converter (and if you go for a Windows tablet a portable docking station, so you can use your tablet like a normal comuter, with external Monitor and so on, see e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPPY4m8iY0k)

- A hand strap, so you do not have to hold the tablet all the time,

- A rugged case in case you do not walk in easy terrain…

BTW, on our Windows tablets we deactivated the “Lock screen” and the requirement to enter username and password after wake-up, which would have been quite time consuming.

Good luck with your study.

Cheers
Stefan

Hi Firman and Nathan, thanks for your answer!

Nathan, your project is fastastic. However I must work with offline maps, thus I need to use android. Does your company plan to build an android application to IntraMaps?

Firman, how do you integrate ona and GeoODK?

Cheers!

I have a project over here that might work. It's a Windows based application (or Linux).

If you want Android then QField is the QGIS option for that http://www.opengis.ch/android-gis/qfield/

Hi,

I know that this is not the main purpose of this mailing list, but have someone tried any Open-Source APP to collect data in the field with a tablet?

I want to previously prepare my map in QGIS (or another desktop software), upload to a tablet and get some information in the field, using forms (need data validation), device information (GPS location, time, route) and take some photos for each point.

I want to make a big survey in a historic city in Brazil, describing each build and parcel.

Have someone got any good experience?

Best regards,
Marco.
