Just out of curiosity: Do you have styles applied to your layers? Is
this the file size Qgis is creating or are you stripping out manually?
I'd love to have files with 1 MB.

No, not yet. I want to be sure it is really a bug/issue with Qgis, since
I couldn't find any other reports.
