Hi,
I have been looking at that.  If I understand, that grid is for the nad27 to nad83 (original).  Updated version of nad83(csrs96) known as nad83csrs or nad83(csrs98) are not included.  I think  the trx software is the only ways out for those.  I and sending email to see if other grids exist nationally. Will keep you posted.
BTW, I am not surprised by the fact that they helped you.  These NRCAN people really are great.  I deal with them regularly and they are indeed very helpful.

The NTv2 GSB[1] for Canada is shared under the "Open Government License - Canada"[2]. I made a request some years ago and they did it! So it's definitely a good step forward. I'm not a license guru so not sure if it can be packaged and redistributed with FOSS (ie, QGIS or proj). I know for provincial (cause I'm in British Columbia) the Provincial Government has their own GSB for distribution, albeit a different and non-open license (I've asked for it to be switched to open license as well). I tend to use those, so asking with Provincial agencies/ministries would be a good bet too. Maybe it would also be more user friendly, if QGIS would already deliver
the grid shift files for most countries. But that would bloat QGIS quite
a bit. The grid shift file for Switzerland (one of the smallest
countries in the world) is already 3 MB. Maybe a grid shift file manager
and repository would help for downloading, installing and deleting the
files and for setting it up properly for easy usage.

Grid shift files are not always for free, and free ones might not be allowed to be distributed by others (like on qgis.org ).
