I’m getting a network error when trying to download it via the browser as well. I will check with our IT service provider to see if they have any insights. Thanks so much for all you help!

Somehow, your QGIS is not able to download the plugin. This means something with your internet connection prevents it from doing so (because I just verified that the link from your own log message works for me here, so we cannot blame the QGIS plugin repository server).

Let's investigate...

1. Can you download this link from your browser?
http://plugins.qgis.org/plugins/openlayers_plugin/version/1.4.3/download/

If yes, it means your browser can download the plugin (through the same internet connection).
If no... you'll have to find out why (or download it somewhere else and do some manual steps)...

Anyway, so if yes you were able to download it: A common difference between QGIS and your browser is the "proxy". Check the proxy settings in your browser (depends on your particular browser, use your favorite search engine...) and then read the following link:

https://gis.stackexchange.com/questions/25188/how-to-access-qgis-plugin-repositories-from-behind-a-proxy

Good luck :)

That one isn’t working either – and I’m getting the same error message.

Apologies again as I’m completely new to this, but what is the integrated XYZ possibilities? And what proxy settings am I looking to change?

Thanks,

Nate

1. Better use QuickMapServices (or even better the integrated XYZ possibilities through the browser)

2. Check your proxy settings

Hi Nate,

The error message here is unrelated to the two plugins you mentioned.

Can you go to the plugin manager, make sure these plugins are activated and check if you have any other message there?

Regards

Matthias

I am using QGIS 2.18.10 on Windows. Below is the error message from the log:

Sorry for not providing enough information initially. I am new to all this.

Start with telling us which versions of QGIS en Operating System your are working with.

AND what exactly 'an error' means: copy paste the error message you see for example

without this info we can not help you.
