[Qgis-user] "handshake failed"

I'm getting the message "handshake failed" with these repository entries:

deb https://qgis.org/debian trusty main
deb-src https://qgis.org/debian trusty main

following instructions at
https://qgis.org/en/site/forusers/alldownloads.html#debian-ubuntu

$ uname -a
Linux mint3 4.4.0-112-generic #135~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jan 23 
20:41:48 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux  (Linus Mint 17.3)

Ubuntu seems to be only providing Qgis 2.0.1-Dufour, but I have had 2.14 
and 2.18 on my LinuxMint computers before but cannot get them installed now.
