[Qgis-user] inserting a new place or feature

Hi,
Am pleased with my first effort making a map using layers from Natural
Earth and finding out how translate a spelling of a place in the attributes
table to French. Now, if I want to add a place such as a small mountain
range  not in the attributes table (or a village in a populated places
layer), is there a simple way of finding out the coordinates to position
the inserted name?
