Just to add to the existing (correct) responses:
If someone is particularly missing the workflow which evis exposed
then it would be relatively straightforward to implement this as a
Python plugin, and distribute it via the normal QGIS plugin repository
just like all other 3rd party plugins. That's what recently happened
with the previously included "coordinate capture" plugin: the plugin's
key functionality was integrated into an out-of-the-box QGIS install,
and a new 3rd party, community maintained plugin which reproduces the
older functionality exactly was developed by a motivated community
member.
This approach removes maintenance burden from the core QGIS
contributors and allows the particular user segment who use the
corresponding functionality to step up and take over maintenance, so
it's a win all round.
