Hi Karlo,
like almost everything on a computer, it is actually possible to
automate the procedure to update a software. You can use the OSGeo4W
setup program to perform an update of the OSGeo4W packages and make it
execute automatically using the Windows task scheduler.

Anyway, I don't think that it could mean that QGIS auto update itself,
since the OSGeo4W setup program is not QGIS and the OSGeo4W installer
(either "online" or "offline") doesn't add an automatic update task to
the Windows task scheduler. So, in such case, a human or maybe another
software or an agentic AI should have created and added such task.

Moreover, if a task was added to the Windows task scheduler launching
the OSGeo4W setup program to simply perform an update of the OSGeo4W
packages already installed, then it is not possible that QGIS LTR 3.44.9
can be "updated" to QGIS 4.0.1: in OSGeo4W, the QGIS LTR package
(qgis-ltr) is different from the QGIS 4.0 package (qgis), thus if you
have installed QGIS LTR 3.44.9 then you can update it to QGIS LTR
3.44.10 (when it will be available), not to QGIS 4.0.1.

Regards.

Andrea
