Hi All.This sounds like a simple use of rasters which would consist of interpreted layers from the point locations.  In your case, with negative values for depth if you use the existing surface of the earth as the zero level.  You could also use height above the ellipsisoid to have positive values.By introducing a stack of rasters,  values for each depth, you can read the value from a x, y coordinate from the raster that matches the depth you are interested in. Another thought iscthat a 3D raster would contain 3D blocks which are called voxels.  I am uncertain how QGIS handles them, but perhaps someone on the list can comment.Kirk SchmidtSent from my Galaxy

We are a group of Civil Engineering students currently working on our minor project using QGIS. First of all, we would like to thank your team for developing such a powerful and open-source GIS platform. It has been a great learning experience for us.

Our project focuses on estimating SBC using geospatial data. At present, QGIS is excellent for analyzing and visualizing data on the ground surface. However, we are trying to work with subsurface soil information, where the Safe Bearing Capacity values are
 obtained from boreholes or soil investigation reports.

Our idea is to store SBC values at different borehole locations in QGIS at different depths. For example, if SBC values are available at Points A, B, C, D, and E, we want to develop a feature that allows a user to click on any location between these points
 and receive an estimated SBC value based on nearby borehole data using interpolation or other suitable methods.

While exploring different tools and plugins in QGIS, we found that the current workflow does not fully support this type of subsurface analysis in the way we require. Therefore, we are reaching out to your team for guidance and possible collaboration.

Our long-term vision is to develop a QGIS-based solution integrated with Machine Learning, where users can simply select a land location and obtain an estimated Safe Bearing Capacity instantly. Such a tool could be useful for civil engineers, architects, students,
 and planners during the initial stages of project planning, reducing both time and cost.

We would be grateful if your team could guide us regarding:


The best approach to implement this feature in QGIS.
Existing tools, plugins, or APIs that may help.
The possibility of contributing to QGIS through this project.
Any opportunity to collaborate with your development community.

We believe this project has the potential to become a useful addition to the QGIS ecosystem and could benefit many users involved in geotechnical and civil engineering applications.
