Thanks Tim,
I completely removed QGIS and reinstalled with https://qgis.org.ubuntu
and still getting proj 493.
But I must also say that I have installed the proj that comes with
Ubuntu (493), as I need that for compiling another app) and I think QGIS
uses that one instead of the one coming with QGIS?
