 The plugin is quite widely used and seems to be the best option to push
 external links to a new tab. I've been using it for over a year through
 several WP upgrades without difficulty.

 I'd prefer to force external links to open in a new tab rather than
 expecting users to right click. There are ca 1000 Community News posts at
 the moment which  mainly lead to external links but there is no way to
 know that when you click on one of the post titles on our site.
