 I also noticed systemctl status showed degraded and  sudo systemctl list-
 units --state failed showed below failed

 so I disabled these, same ones that cause issues with bullseye (just in
 case)

 systemctl disable systemd-networkd-wait-online.service
 systemctl disable systemd-journald-audit.socket
 systemctl mask modprobe at drm.service
 systemctl mask systemd-logind.service
 systemctl disable systemd-networkd.service
 systemctl disable systemd-resolved.service
 systemctl mask systemd-journald-audit.socket
 systemctl disable systemd-networkd.socket
 }}}

 and then rebooted again.  Came back fine.
