Is seasonofdocs able to obtain permission to release existing material as
CC-0?

I like CCBY-4, and feel that this road may be more amenable for authors of
existing docs, and new authors who commit substantial time to the project.
In some cases ‘inability to retain copyright’ is a blocker for
contributions.

Attribution is both onerous and not onerous. The process of writing for
science is a decent model of ‘giving attribution’ and also ‘giving away
stuff’. It’s also a decent model for how to recognise larger contributions
by how contributors are ordered.

Hopefully some non-blocking food for thought...
