[OSGeo-Standards] What's GMLCOV and GMLCOV for JPEG2000?

Hi all,

GMLCOV is OGC's data model for coverages [1]; this is an interoperable,
conformance-testable implementation model for the abstract (hence,
non-interoperable) ISO 19123. It is good for n-D spatio-temporal regular &
irregular grids, point clouds, and meshes.

While formally defined in GML, GMLCOV does not depend on GML encoding. As
Mateusz has pointed out correctly, many encodings are possible, such as
JPEG2000. This figure [2] explains encoding variants. GMLJP2 adds GML info to
JPEG2000. As JPEG2000 can carry further information, this is used to add in more
(sub) coverages and features around the central grid image. For example,
annotations can be added into a GMLJP2 image this way.

HTH,
Peter
