[OSGeo-Standards] OGC Schemas software distribution update and package proposal

Hi all: just wanted to bump the following:

Has there been any further discussion between OGC / OSGeo in this regard?

Having said this, I've started drafting a Python package [1] which
will bundle http://schemas.opengis.net and make it available, along
with an XML catalog, to downstream applications for ease of use.  For
applications who use the OGC Schemas to do realtime validation and store
the schemas in the codebase, this will provide that package, thus reducing
schemas in codebases.  The plan will be to make OS packages
packages (Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, etc.), allowing for any application to
leverage.
