[Tilecache] Making TileCache seed faster?

A customer has asked an odd question, so I'll pass it on to you all. :)

He's migrating from ka-Map to OL, and ka-Map, he observes, seems to be 
faster at pregenerating tiles than TileCache. His question is whether 
precache.php could be adapted to seed TileCache's cache, and whether it 
would be any faster.

Before we explored this seemingly-crazy idea, I thought I'd ask whether 
anyone else had tried this, or thoughts on the topic. I DO realize that 
the two aren't the same, but mixing apple juice and orange juice is 
actually pretty tasty. :)
