[Ubuntu] How to install the correct proj version?

As I asked you - did you install (lib)proj yourself, and the answer
hints to yes yes.
Now why did it get there in the first place... this reminds me of
other problems on the qgis mailing list, with ubuntugis installing
some files to /usr/local/

$ ldd `which gdalinfo` | grep proj
        libproj.so.0 => /usr/local/lib/libproj.so.0 (0x00007ff5fa44f000)

gdal was built with proj-4.8 but it is using proj-4.7, hence the error.

remove you installation of proj in /usr/local/lib and /usr/local/include
