Suchith

First I must apologise for taking so long to get back to you on this - having been on holiday it's taken me a while to get back in the groove and mull this over.... However having giving it some thought I've decided that at the moment, with other commitments in mind, I wouldn't be able to do it justice, so regretfully I must decline the nomination. I am sure there are others in the UK chapter who'll be able to take up the baton from Jo and carry forward the great work that she's done over the past six years.

regards
Antony

Hi Jo,

Thanks for all your efforts for us over the years and I am sure that you will be strongly involved with all our activities for the future. For the sake of continuity, we need a official representative and i can see many active members who are suitable for the role.

I would like to nominate Antony Scott to be the chapter representative (if he agrees) as Antony has been strong member from the very start and had been key in building up OSGeo:UK profile with the UK casestudies initiative.

Antony, please let us know if you accept the nomination. Thanks.

If anyone wishes to be the chapter representative, please feel free to let us all know, so that we can have this finalized at the AGM on 5th Sep.

Best wishes,

Suchith

Hi Suchith,

I'm not intending to step away from all involvement in OSGeo and the Chapter, or indeed FOSS4G 2013, just my two official roles (I've resigned from the OSGeo Board as well). If the chapter needs a figurehead in order to maintain momentum for the next year, then that figurehead needs to be someone with the enthusiasm, time and commitment to take it forward. That's not me any more- I have done the job for 6 years and it's time for someone with some new ideas to have a go- and for me to use what energy and enthusiasm I do have towards organising and promoting FOSS4G 2013. Personally I don't think the chapter needs a figurehead for it's involvement in FOSS4G- the more collective involvement we have, the better there.

Thanks

Jo

PS if anyone thinks they might be interested in the role and wants to know more about what it involves, but doesn't want to speak up on list, then do get in touch privately.

Hi Jo,

I respect your decision and i am sure you must have put lot of thought to this. You have been the key driver for building up the chapter and i am keen that we dont lose the momentum that is building up. Also as now FOSS4G is happening in less than 12 months time, could i humbly request you to reconsider your decision and to be the UK chapter representative till FOSS4G 2013, so that we do not lose focus and momentum.

Best wishes,

Suchith

Dear All,

After 6 years as the official representative of the UK Local Chapter of OSGeo, I plan to stand down at this year's AGM. We've never really had a formal process for electing the representative, so unless anyone has a better idea. I suggest that anyone interested in the role, or nominating someone, speak out on the list. If we get more than one nomination then we will have a vote.

This is not the time for me to expand on why I am standing down- only to say that 6 years is long enough, and someone else can have a go! It has no impact, as far as I'm concerned, on my role helping to organise FOSS4G 2013, or as a roving evangelist about open source geospatial software.

Thanks

Jo
